Christian Portfolio: The Benefits Of Christianity

Improved Essays
The benefits that I hope to gain are how to extend my Christianity from my regular home and church life into practicing it continuously in my school and work life. This portfolio will allow me to grow in my interpersonal effectiveness by having my strengths and weaknesses displayed in my own writing. I will be able to critique myself and evaluate on my own knowledge and behavior (Baldwin, Bommer, Rubin, 2013, p. 49). Developing this portfolio has taught me to dive deep into my thoughts and the Bible’s teachings of a Christian worldview and practice it even in a secular work environment. I hope this portfolio allows me to grow in my walk with The Lord. I want to be a faithful steward of the gifts that The Lord has blessed me with (Genesis 1:28-29).

Introduction In her presentation of theological economy, namely, the economy of grace, Kathryn Tanner investigates the practical implications of her incarnational dogmatic enterprise. I concur with Tanner’s claim of the urgent need of an economy of grace as I take into account the ever-growing gap of wealth between the rich and the poor as well as the Global North and the Global South. Furthermore, as George Harvey rightly diagnoses, it seems to be the unbridled desire for private possession in the capitalist market that resulted in the housing bubble, which eventually “destroyed the capacity for many to acquire and sustain their access to housing use values.” (George Harvey, 21).…

In reading the Rae and Wong (2012) textbook titled “Beyond integrity: A Judeo-Christian approach to business”, the authors gave several examples on how large corporations and organizations have an impact on individual ethics. I believe, the example provided in this book will answer the earlier mentioned question of: what is it that makes some people, who are often considered to be good people, to conduct such unethical/bad judgements and acts? Let’s take a look at the company Sears, whose auto centers were given as examples in the textbook of using rewards as incentives to employees for participation in unethical behaviors. Sears Auto Centers ripped of many people, by overcharging its customer on auto repairs. These repairs had an average…

After view the video presentation this week, I learned that it is not against the law to discuss Christianity in the classroom. The court has ruled that there is a relationship with education and religion. When approached from a historical standpoint the bible and religion are inseparable and it is a disservice to students to deny them information about such. In addition, it is however unacceptable to teach from the standpoint of forcing ones beliefs on the student body in the form of suggesting that Christianity is the only true religion.…

“Set your affections on things above; love one another; commune at the table of our Lord in one spirit; worship in spirit and in truth; and if daily adoring, imploring, and living the divine Life, Truth, Love, thou shalt partake of the bread that cometh down from heaven, drink of the cup of salvation, and be baptized in Spirit,” wrote Mary Baker Eddy in 1898 (Christian Science Versus Pantheism). Mrs. Eddy (as she is colloquially referred to by her followers) was the woman who came to found the Christian Science religion, based on the metaphysical New Thought movement, in 1879 (Christian Science, “What is Christian Science?”). For individuals who are born into the modern Christian Science church, understanding the concept of “divinity” in the…

True and significant life is found in Jesus Christ and because of my firm conviction of this it has been my primary objective to point people to Jesus. Being persuaded that Christ wants Christians and especially those who take leadership roles to minister to the needs of others, I have ordered my life to conform to that conviction. Ultimately, Jesus desires that each Christian serves him by serving others; this is accomplished in a variety of ways – feeding those who are hungry, teaching everyone the life saving Gospel, and by leading in a way that reflects the glory of Christ. It has been my immense pleasure to have had the opportunity to preach God’s Word to thousands of people over the past fifteen years. It is my sincere passion to see people embrace Christ Jesus as their Lord and savior and to be transformed by the renewing of their minds through the Word of God.…

Christian conduct includes various aspects to consider. Differentiating in opinions leads for some to determine that being content is of the utmost importance while others may conclude that leading a good example is of the foremost importance. Showing a good example is important because it is something for others to see and learn from while varying aspects of Christian conduct may not be as obvious to others. Showing a good example is an aspect of Christian conduct that can influence those who are a witness to it. This is shown in the Bible; “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”…

The foundation of the Christian Faith centers on Jesus dying on the cross for the sins of all, and rising from the dead three days later. But Jesus was not an ordinary man, He was the Incarnation of God in human form. Meaning, He was not just any good person then died too save us from our sins. “…and became human; He suffered and rose on the third day, He ascended into the heavens…” – Nicene Creed To start off you can’t just look at the Incarnation of God, but you have to look at the Trinity too.…

Schools, such as Loma Linda University, have built their organization on the foundation of faith. Those who attend have similar beliefs and strive to live a life guided by Christ. A faith-based education would be of special benefit to me, as I desire to be part of peers and educators that aspire to merge learning and faith together. The support and encouragement that this type of community would provide is immeasurable to any other college. I individually want to attend LLU because it will give me the opportunity to challenge myself intellectually, promote my spiritual growth, and develop my leadership skills.…

As a nontraditional student or an adult learner, I am faced with the sobering statistic that only one third of adult students graduate from college after entering the program of their choosing (New, 2014, para. 1). Faced with this reality, it is crucial that the student set clear and attainable goals to support the end goal of acquiring a degree. To combat this staggering statistic and understand the risks and challenges ahead, I have identified three educational goals that I would like to achieve in my time at CCU. Firstly, to finish a bachelor’s degree in a timely manner, effectively managing the available resources.…
