In a ministry setting, volunteers are a large part of the organization. It is important that the organization takes the recruiting of these volunteers seriously. It is also important that that the task of finding the right candidate for the job is done thoroughly. Like any other job, volunteers and staff both must go through a process. Those hired or recruited into a ministry program have a responsibility to properly perform the duties they are assigned. Differences within an organization are common, but in a ministry setting they must be addressed in order to prevent the ministry from becoming unhealthy (Anthony, 2005).
The positions in a ministry setting are more than a job and employees have an obligation to serve the Lord through their work.

However, there are differences in the hiring process. In a traditional business setting the one who gets the job meets all of the qualifications necessary to do the job well. In a ministry setting this is not necessarily always the case. Sometimes those who are hired have to learn on the job. For example, in a professional educational setting teachers are required to be certified. In a Christian ministry setting, such as Sunday school, the educator has no certification requirements, but may go through a training process. Staffing within a Christian ministry organization can be a difficult task at times. A lot of responsibility comes with the job. Just like any other job an employer has to find someone who will fit into the position. The staffing of a Christian ministry program also requires finding someone with leadership skills and who can help spread the word of God. Finding someone with this skill set will create a successful environment. The word of God is a priority in a Christian ministry setting.
