Christian Fathers
The word father carries the idea of a nourisher, a protector and an upholder. Perhaps we will never know the depth of our father’s love or the extent of the sacrifices that he makes for his children. So much of his time is spent providing food, clothing, and shelter that there is hardly enough time left for his children; however, fathers love deeply. Commonly, a mother’s love is more visible; yet, fathers love their children unreservedly. In the event of serious mistakes and on those days when his children are at their worst, a Christian father is always there.

Will there be people in this old world that will show kindness to your children for their father’s sake, simply because he was a good man?
The second story is found in Mark chapter nine, immediately following the transfiguration. At the foot of the mountain, a father waited with his son, whom he had brought to Jesus. The father said, “Teacher, I have brought my son who has a dumb spirit to You.” That father didn’t ask the Lord to help his boy, He said, “If You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” (Mark 9: 17; 22) That’s a father’s love.
The third picture is that of the wonderful father in Luke chapter fifteen. This is a portrait of a father who is tenderhearted and forgiving; a father who stood by his son and welcomed him back home.
Now, when these three stories are combined into one, we see a father who gave his children:

Question: “Is the book of Jonah fiction? How could a person survive three days and nights in a fish’s belly? Was he swallowed by a fish or a mammal?”
First: Although it has been argued that the Old Testament book of Jonah is a fairy tale, the Lord Himself referred to it as a sign that His teaching was true. (Matthew 12: 39-41) Fiction proves nothing.
Second: Whether this was a miracle or the providential operation of God the facts remain the same. God may have performed a miracle and created a special sea creature for this occasion or He may have selected a great fish from those created on day five and influenced it to accomplish His plan. Therefore, in either case we see the working of God.
Note: It is of no little interest that cases have been documented of people being swallowed by the large sperm whale and 1 to 3 days later found alive. (A.J. Wilson, Princeton Theological Review, XXV, October
