1) Discuss and evaluate the etiology ideology of Christian faith-healers. What are their goals? Are they similar to the healing principles of shamanism? Why or why not? Christian faith-healers, believe they are truly doing the work of God and Jesus. That through them they have been given the power to heal other. They only ask for donations from those that believe they have been or will be healed. These people are wanting so badly to be healed, they will give any amount and go with out in the hope to be healed or have a loved one healed. The most important are the stories the healer tells about how they came to know they were given these powers from God and stories about how many people they have healed, from a variety of different illnesses. They are nothing more than really good religious salesman, story tellers, and actors wrapped on a stage in front of thousands if not millions of sick, desperate, helpless people that are looking for a miracle in the name of God and Jesus. This is very similar to what we have already read about in regards to shamanism. Kinsley (1996:5-20), discusses in great detail the charisma, pride, and attitude of different types of healers. Shaman usually tell great stories of suffering, being healed, and receiving the power to heal others from “God” and other spirits. Even though I don’t believe this is ethical, sometimes people need something to believe in, something the gives them hope, and if this helps ease someone’s suffering for a week or even a day, who am I to take that away from
