Christian Disobedience And Persecution

Decent Essays
Today, Christians do not adhere to the Great Commission as Jesus commanded. Some of the disobedience comes from Believers not wanting to get discriminated against. In the high-tech culture, it should become more accessible to declare God’s Word to people worldwide. Sadly though, people care to much about how others will judge them instead of focusing on what God appointed them to do. Christ freely gives the power to evangelize and help overcoming the fears of sharing His Word. God’s people do not want persecution to fall on them, but they can be assured that when afflictions arise, the Heavenly Father remains present and strong to comfort them since He gives comfort (2Cornthians 1:3). Believers have a magnificent calling from God to fulfill.

At face value, the story of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight tells of a knight who is challenged by a Green Knight to show the decline in the knighthood, but that is only the literal interpretation. Throughout the story, there are many parallels to the Christian faith seen. The Green Knight places the young knight in a trial just like God might do to Christians. The Green Knight mentions that if Gawain seeks him, then he will be found which is very similar to when Christ says that if we seek, we shall find. The motif of the number three as seen in the Bible for example Peter denying Christ three times and Christ rising after the third day is seen, as well.…

Christ as the center of human existence means that he is our judgment and justification” (Bonhoeffer, Christ the Center/Christology 60). Now that the truth is in us, it must be shared with all. This is what Roberts calls the Proclaimed Kingdom, for Acts 1:4, 8, says, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Jesus commands them to spread his word, to tell all nations about the good news of salvation. Jesus says in Matthew 28:19-20, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.…

Christian Persecution in Tokugawa, Japan Student’s Name Institutional Affiliation Introduction Japan, as a country in the Far East, has had a mixture of history, especially when it comes on the way it diplomatically interacts with the rest of the world. At some point it has been identified as a friend of the west, whereas at some other point it has presented herself as an enemy of the same. In a world that would only increase in Christian persecution, Peter encourages these individuals to live holy lifestyles and “engage in the disciplines of eschatological hope, reverent fear of God, love for each other, and worship of Christ” It is this continued marginalization of the church that gives her a voice to articulate her faith to a pagan culture. Throughout this epistle, Peter ties the church’s persecution with the sufferings of Christ. Regardless of the extent or lengthen of a believer’s persecution, they must, like Christ, commit their lives to their Creator, knowing that their persecution has a divine purpose. Another central theme of 1 Peter is the centrality of Christ in the believer’s life.…

Medieval Europe as a society greatly shunned deviations from cultural norms or established religious orthodoxy. From this denouncement, persecution of minority groups was commonplace, and possibly even a defining trait of European society at the time. Notably, mistreatment of Jewish communities and supposed Christian heresies were the more common forms of religious persecution. Furthermore, even Christians could be subject to persecution, if certain individuals were accused of breaking ethical standards. Likely causes to these recurring instances of persecution may have stemmed from the lack of diversity, as well as the influential religious authority of the Catholic Church.…

Even though Christianity is illegal and Christians can be subject to persecution, the Roman law had the effect of protecting its members of the early Church by not taking into account anonymous accusations and former beliefs of Christianity, giving them multiple opportunities to abandon the Church, and not intruding into their personal lives. In the letter of Emperor Trajan to Governor Pliny, Trajan replies that Pliny did the right thing in executing Christians who repeatedly confirmed they were Christians because there is not "any general rule to serve as a kind of fixed standard." Thus, this protected the members of the Christian Church by giving them multiple opportunities to renounce their faith in Christ. When Pliny was anonymously given…
