Workshop 4: My Life As A Christ Follower
How does one measure the essence of their faith? The United States is, primarily, a monotheistic society with Christianity being the dominate religion. It is not surprising that as a native born resident of this Country, I would adopt this religious belief system. So, is my becoming a Christ follower simply a circumstance of the location of my birth, or is there a deeper meaning? I also ask if I can be true to my faith while respecting the rights of others to seek God in their own way?
The Walnut Creek Assembly of God Church in La Puente, California was having a revival and I was invited. Home was a scary place for me while growing up, so when Tommy, my maternal uncle, took me to church for the very

One example that I can share, is my decision to be faithful to my husband. Historically, the American culture has, at least publically, supported the idea of monogamy (in America we like the idea of monogamy, the practice not as much). I choose to have a monogamous marriage with my husband however, this is not the only form of faithfulness that I practice. I also respect my husband and we choose to make most of our decisions as a couple. In a time when divorce is becoming the cultural norm, we choose to weather the storms of our relationship and remain together. This is not to indicate that those who divorce are somehow less pleasing to God (this is my second marriage), but I do believe that having God as our foundation, helps maintain stability in our …show more content…
All of the ladies wore dresses or skirts and the gentlemen wore a suit and tie. I am assuming that they see this as a symbol of respect. My husband and I sat in the last pew in the Sanctuary with the rest of my Pacific Warner team. The Sanctuary was tasteful but devoid of any artwork on the walls or the windows. The apparent dress code of the members of the congregation and the physical structure were different than my Church, but I did not find this uncomfortable. The service consisted of partaking in communion (it is called Sacrament in the Mormon Church), worship music that was very reverent (I actually knew two of the three hymns), and testimonials from various members of the congregation. It was very clear from the testimonials, that each member who spoke, felt a strong conviction in his / her beliefs. This honors God. All in all, it was a nice

When it comes to religious beliefs, the human experience aspect plays a very important role. Although there are other forms of influence when choosing or learning about a religion, in my opinion the human experience plays the most vital role. Whether your religion is passed down to you through your family or you make your own individual of which religion you would like to pursue, it is inevitable to have your outlook swayed (even in the slightest). I was born into a family of Christians. However as I grow older meet more people of other religions the things I practiced and the way that I practice them have changed.…

I remember going to the Greater Allan Cathedral when I was a younger teen. I started going there with my family every Sunday to the churches 8:30 a.m. service. Or, if we woke up early enough, the 6:15 a.m. My Father made sure we went to church every Sunday. He cut our hair every Saturday morning so we were sharp, and ready to receive the word from Pastor Floyd H. Flake and his wife, Elaine Flake.…

The freedom of belief and religion for Jehovah’s Witnesses is not being enforced in certain countries. Many Witnesses are thrown in jail, killed, and persecuted for their religious beliefs in different countries. The right to freedom of belief and religion applies to everyone from every religion so it is not fair to deprive Witnesses from that right. There is still a chance to save many innocent Witnesses lives and stop them from being killed. It is a violation of the human rights to put someone to death without a fair trial by jury.…

John the Baptist was Jesus’ cousin who preached repentance in the Judean desert and baptized those who confessed their sins in the Jordan River (Elwell and Yarbrough 109). He had a special call on his life “to bear witness about the light” (English Standard Version, John 1.8) of Jesus (Foster 65) and is recorded in all four of the Gospels of the New Testament. John’s entire ministry is a perfect example of the faithful servitude Christ calls each believer’s life to illustrate. The Gospel of Luke records that even as a baby yet unborn, John “leaped for joy” (Lk. 1.44) at the presence of the Jesus’ mother Mary.…

John the Baptist seeing Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he told them, “Do not presume to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father,’ for I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham” (Matt. 3:9). John the Baptist rebuking the Pharisees and Sadducees for boasting about their heritage. No one goes to heaven because of their association with a nation, their heritage or their traditions. Jesus came to save individuals not a community. Individual trust in Christ is what takes a person to heaven.…

Another example of how someone rises up over the Traditional Christian beliefs is Minister Barbara William-Skinner. The New York Times’s Laurie Goodstein reports on the recent event saying, “The middle class and its discontents have occupied so much political and media attention lately that poverty has been crowded out. But some prominent religious leaders are gearing up for a campaign to try to put it back on the nation’s agenda in a way that it hasn’t been in decades.” The poverty in the world is not receiving enough attention and religious leaders are trying to do something about it. To paraphrase Goodstein, Minister William-Skinner believes the new tax bills passed in Congress are what is hurting the people and causing poverty.…

Comparing it to my own faith Baptist, it was like a regular “church service” with some few exceptions; one being that the person delivering the talk or sermon was not a paid clergy. There were opening prayers, readings from the Bible, the Bahá’í Sacred Writings and a Gospel Choir provided the music. He gave an exemplary speech on Progressive Revelation in which he said the Messengers of God are those special Beings who reveal to humanity the Will of God. They are like the perfect mirrors that reflect the light of God, and include Jesus, Abraham, Moses, Buddha, Jesus, Muhammad, Krishna and…

Of all the events in human history, there is no event more significant, more important than that of the incarnation of Christ. When the living, eternal God, a Spirit Being, entered into humanity by becoming a human Himself. Of this instance of God entering into humanity, Chafer writes, “No human mind can grasp the significance of the occurrence and consequence of the incarnation. That a person of the Godhead should become one of the human family-the sphere of His own creation-with a view to remaining in that form, though glorified, and throughout eternity must continue an insoluble mystery to the creatures of the world.” (Lewis Sperry Chafer 42).…

The church that I attended was a Korean Baptist church. I was invited to participate in one of there young adult / college worship and fellowship services. It began around 6pm on a Friday night and was not concluded till around 10pm. Going into this experience I was not really sure what to expect, however what I took away from it will be a key reminder for me many years to come when discussing other cultures faith and devotion to Jesus. I arrived at the church and was greeted with big smiles and hand shakes as I entered what appeared to be both a fellowship area and childcare area.…
