Chris Vandermeer's Room-Personal Narrative

I gazed out into the room that was filled with people adorned with designer dresses and pseudo smiles. Normally any girl in her right mind would be beyond words- after all, almost every big-shot name that you could think of is in attendance. However, this didn’t faze me at all. Growing up as one of the daughters of the multi billionaire Chris Vandermeer probably had something to do with it. In fact, I rather hated them, having to make polite conversation with bigots and airheads all the while wearing shoes that killed my feet. Most of all, I hated my status, which attracted bees like honey. The number of guys and girls had come up to me, pretending to seek friendship only to go behind my back for the money and name, I couldn’t tell you. …show more content…
The walls were coated with a soft matte grey, and white linings. The floorings were bamboo planks, imported directly from China. Turning right, I caught a reflection of myself in one of the mirrors. Looking into it, I had mid length soft black hair with blonde streaks, emerald green eyes, and a heart shaped face. Wearing a dark blue loose dress that went to my ankles, with a v neck and a slit from my mid-thigh, I continued forward. After going through the maze that was the hallways and turning a few more times, I found myself standing in front of a bedroom door. Knocking, I waited for her to answer before she calls me …show more content…
My blood went cold. She continued, “All of them have been passed to me. With that being said, you are formally no daughter of mine. I expect any lingering belongings of yours to be out by morning. I will make the announcement publicly tomorrow as I hope this is our last meeting. Goodbye Ashe.” Not knowing what to say, I gaped at her. I couldn’t help the shock that ran through me. A couple of times she had joked about disowning me, but now that it was happening, everything suddenly felt surreal. Not even bothering to say goodbye, I turned on my heels and walked out, anger blocking out any thoughts of sympathy or melancholy. Since I had moved out as soon as I was old enough to, there really wasn’t anything left behind. As soon as I reached the foyer at the front of the house, I reached for my keys. Pressing the button, a black matte jeep SRT8 beeped at me. Opening the door and sliding inside, I saw that mother was standing out in the doorway of her balcony, a small smile playing on her lips from the corner of my eye. I pulled out of the driveway and onto the streets leading to my house and took a breath. Silently, I thanked myself for deciding to wear a looser dress, compared to the others I saw. Some looked like corsets. I shivered at the

A silence stretches long between us. Layna dabs at her eyes with the sleeve of her thin sweater, then reaches down and grasps my red-tipped fingers as we approach our mother’s house. Without a word, we step up onto the porch stairs that rasp in complaint, and I hold my breath, waiting for the curtains to swish, and the glimpse of Mom’s beaming face before she bustled towards the front door in her excitement to see us, throwing open the door to smother us in hugs, all wrinkled skin and senior sweat, and the scent of home.…

He raced around the room frantically, collecting his things all while shouting at Elora. The woman sat in bed, pouting, her arms crossed over her naked bosom. “Get the fuck out of my bed, will you?” bellowed Perceval, nearly apoplectic with rage, as he yanked up his trousers and slipped his feet into his boots.…

Jayden Henery sat in his old, rickety, plastic green chair doing his math homework. “What is the meaning of this stupid crap,” Jayden screamed. He heard a bark of a dog outside and stared out his bedroom window looking out at the night sky of San Diego, thinking why he can’t be grown up right this instant, because then he can run away from this stupid nightmare. Then Jayden looked back at his desk and down on his family picture, at least when he had an actual family, he looked at himself with his baby brown eyes and his perfect dark brown hair, thinking why couldn’t I look better. Then his mother, Catherine Henery, came to the left of him holding him in her long arms.…
