The journey Chris McCandless makes into the wild is one of the most unproductive “journey” anyone has made. Chris McCandless’s journey is one that doesn 't seem to be very logical. McCandless’s proved nothing with his journey. The fact that he was not able to complete his journey due to selfishness shows the lack of intelligence Chris McCandless carried one his so call “journey”. Giving out his inheritance and college money just makes Chris sound even more childish. To add on Chris McCandless never said a word to his family members about his departure. McCandless was able to document very little in his journal. With a few journal entries Chris McCandless’s family was left with a million questions on how why Chris had to have been so self-seeking

When you read this book you get a sense as if Chris woke up one day and thought to himself, “I wonder what the wild is like, probably not too bad.” This is the mindset of a five year old. Of course people of all ages get curious, but most normal humans do not feed their curiosity with foolish acts. This journey seems to have been a suicide attempt. No one in their right mind sets off into the wilderness with a backpack with a book of Tolstoy, a book about native plants and berries, a rifle with 400 rounds of ammunition, a writing implement, a journal, a camera, a large bag of rice, a small cooking utensil, matches, a knife, and some fishing twine and a hook. The first encounter Chris has in Alaska is with Jim Gallien. Jim Gallien play a discreet yet important role in the book. Jim really tried to tell Chris how unprepared he was. Gallien was kind enough to donate his boots to Chris because his were not waterproof. Jim Gallien told Chris he did not have the right tools, skills, and that ten pounds of rice was not enough to survive. All these warnings show you the reader that Chris McCandless was not bound to have a successful journey. This is a foreshadow to Chris’s death. As you may know Chris dies of starvation. It is almost as if Chris had knowledge of his death being caused by hunger. Being so unprepared Chris’s death is contributed to main things, but the main thing is hunger. Food is one of his topics in his journal. Chris shared his daily meals, which weren 't very appetizing nor healthy. Most of the time Chris was struggling with low food. He would have to make decisions such as if he ate today tomorrow he could not. McCandless wrote about how hard is was to find food. There was a helicopter that would deliver food, but the temperatures were too extreme to make it possible to get food to Chris. Therefore, Chris McCandless was left in below freezing weather his no source of nutrition. Chris McCandless put this on himself. Never did he have to make such a harsh trip into an unknown place. The only thing that this wilderness was known for was the supreme weather that had left human 's lifeless in the past. All this known and Chris still believed it was alright to venture with minimal gear. How could one go that long and have that many signs come up through the journey and still think it is right to keep
