Chris Mccandless Transcendentalism Essay

Famous transcendentalist writer Henry David Thoreau once wrote “ Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the Life you’ve imagined”. These ideals spoke to Chris McCandless on many levels. McCandless was a big supporter of transcendentalism, and its way of life. Therefore, McCandless decided he would go survive in the Alaskan Wilderness. Throughout, his diary entries he expressed how much he loved this, and how he got out of the forms of society. Although, he was found three months later dead, he did achieve his goals. Chris was always a goal achiever, he always pushed himself and never gave up. Some of Chris’s biggest achievements were living the transcendentalist lifestyle, getting away from his home life and being genuinely happy. McCandless didn't have his childhood handed too him on a silver platter. Growing up, he lived in a hostile environment. Fearing the abuse from his cheating dad and always having to protect his siblings. Over the years, McCandless grew further and further away from his family. On the other hand McCandless did have a deep love for his sister, Carine. They shared a very close bond. Carine believes he left to teach his parents a lesson. McCandless had always admired writers like Jack London, Henry David Thoreau, and Leo Tolstoy because of their morals. They all believed how a man can live a happier and more simple life in the wild. Jack London wrote a book about venturing into the alaskan wilderness which inspired McCandless in many ways.
