Chris Mccandless Selfish

Into the Wild, by Jon Krakauer was a very inspirational story about a young man named Chris McCandless on an adventure to Alaska. From the beginning we as the reader know that Chris does not survive. Chris seemed to survive well, until he reached the wilderness of Alaska consequently. Meeting new people, having them house him, feed him, give him work. His intelligence, lacked in the wilderness, moreover, his common sense wasn't the best either. Chris McCandless was both intelligent, but he was also lacking common sense, he also enjoyed people but wanted to be alone. Although there are many other traits that Chis/Alex holds that also have an opposite to it. being alone. Nevertheless, Chris embarks on his journey to Alaska, he leaves his own family behind. He craves to be separate from them and wanting to be his own free spirit, as he furthered his journey he starts to notice that he loves being around people, surrounding himself by the people he has met. He was friendly and outgoing, Chris wanted to start from the bottom and work his way to the top. “Please return all mail I receive to the sender. It might be a very long time before I return South. If this adventure proves fatal and you don’t ever hear from me again, I want you to know you’re a great man. I now walk into the wild.” On page 69, Chris writes to Mr. Westerberg, he tells him that this is the last he will hear from him. Once Chris gets close to someone he pushes them away. He develops thoughts that he should stay away from people, even if he enjoyed their company, he was trying to show that he was independent, but when you come from a well put off family and suddenly drops all of it, it is hard to not be so reliant on people to help
