Chris Mccandless Journey Into The Wild Analysis

Chris McCandless leaves everything he has acquired in his life in the big city. His parents started out average, but made a name for themselves as rocket scientists, and became very wealthy. Many people might ask why Chris wasn't content with his life, or why he wanted to get away from everyone. Chris believed that his achievements were useless to him, and that he needed to find happiness, and enjoy the process of doing it. His Journey into the wild was an adventure, but more importantly an empty road on which he decided his every move, and no one could stop him on his pursuit of happiness. I feel that Chris' decision was the best for him, and that you shouldn't look to other people to make you happy. He never needed prized objects to make him content, and he believed that the people around him were holding him back with their drama and lies. “As a young man, I was unlike McCandless in many important regards; most notably, I possessed neither his intellect nor his lofty ideals. But I believe we were similarly affected by the skewed relationships we had with our fathers. And I suspect we had a similar intensity, a similar heedlessness, a similar agitation of the soul” (Krakauer 155). This is the inspiration that Chris used to motivate himself in order to seek happiness. As Chris did, I believe that you could find happiness without the help of money and fame. Although we all have the freedom here in America to peruse the way of life we wanna live, not everyone takes advantage of it. Embracing the true meaning of life might be one of the hardest things for most people. Everyone wants to live a picture perfect life, be wealthy and not have any drama that they have to deal with. For those people, they will never be able to embrace the true meaning of life unless they push for the things they want in life.
