He was an intelligent man who put all of his effort into things he wanted to achieve and he was always seeking to learn new things. Krakauer notes that westerberg stated “You could tell right away that Alex was intelligent….He read a lot. used a lot of big words” (15). This quote shows that he knew a lot of vocabulary in order to use big words and it also shows that he loved to read to expand his knowledge. School was always easy for Chris and he even graduated from college with honor classes. He had the ability to pursue a career and further his education but that's not what he wanted to do with his life; he wanted to explore the world and live off the land in Alaska.
Chris was a very stubborn man who did things the way he wanted and didn't let no one stop him from achieving his goals. He was a man who got up one day and changed his life around for the sake of his own happiness and no one else's. McCandless had high expectations for himself and never gave up. McCandless wasn't your typical man but he was a great determined and intelligent man who achieved his goals and died feeling
