Chris Mccandless Analysis

Register to read the introduction… Christopher McCandless did not make the right choice in not letting his family know he was alive and well. Nothing hurts more than the loss of a loved one, the passing of Chris devastated his family. Chris left with the intention of not wanting to be found, Chris caused stress on his family because they had no idea if he was alive. The least that Chris could have done to communicate with his family would be to send them a postcard once in a while to let his family know he was still living. I believe Chris made the wrong choice in not telling his family, it caused his family emotional pain. Regret can consume a person if you allow it to take over you, Chris did not regret the decision he made in not including his family in his future plans. Chris always struggled with the lifestyle that his family lived. The McCandless family is a wealthy family, Chris’s father, Walt worked for NASA and his mother Billie was a secretary at Hughes Aircraft. People deal with traumatic situations differently; Chris chose to deal with his situation in a rather than the normal way. Chris found out about a secret his family was hiding from him, a secret so unreal. Chris wasn’t sure what to do with what he had found out. Chris discovered that his father had been unfaithful to his mother. When Chris was born, Chris’s father, Walt was still married to his first wife Marcia. Two years later, Walt Chris’s dad fathered another child with Marcia. Finding out this sort of information must have been devastating for him. Unresolved issues with his family, especially his father may have played a big part in why Chris left without a trace for his family to follow. “It’s not always necessary to be strong, but to feel strong.” (Chris McCandless) Chris was a strong and individual, he was emotionally, physically, and mentally strong. Emotionally he had the power to get himself through the tough situations that he had to overcome. Physically, Chris had the power to survive cannoning through the Colorado River, and even when he got lost at sea. What got him through that tough situation was his physical, emotional, and mental strength. People are still trying to get into Chris’s mind to find out what was the source for him packing some belongings and leaving. ”We were always trying to pull him out of the edge.”(Walt McCandless) Chris’s father Walt believed that chis was on edge, maybe with the news he had found out that was hid wreaking point, the point where he couldn’t take it anymore and decided to leave. I believe that what he found out about his father must have triggered something and just decided it was time for him to clear his mind. Chris never mentioned to his parents about what he had found out, instead he chose to keep quiet and Chris’s parents had no idea he knew
