Imagine going from a wonderful, happy, successful life, to losing everything you have, even your family. That’s what happened in Chris Gardner’s life. In the film, The Pursuit of Happyness, the director, Gabriele Muccino, had made some choices for the events that portray the real life events of Chris Gardner's life. For Example, when Chris Gardner had completely hit rock bottom and had nowhere to live or sleep, he and his son stayed in the bathroom of a subway station. Moreover, when Chris’s girlfriend left him and their son, or when his son had told him he was a good “Poppa”. Although there are many similarities between the two, there are also a lot of differences. In the movie, Chris’s son is five years of age, but in the real life events …show more content…
Another difference would be when the two police officers came and arrested Chris at his home, or that he actually has two children; one not being shown in the film. There were many similarities between the film and the real life events of Christopher Gardner's life; however, there were also a great deal of differences portrayed in the events between the film and the actual story.
Between the film, The Pursuit of Happyness, and the real life events it’s based on, there are droves of similarities. According to the writers of Chasing the Frog, “They locked the door and slept on the floor of the MacArthur station in Oakland, Ca… When people knocked and banged on the door, Chris told his son to remain quiet” (“The Pursuit of Happyness”). In the film, when Chris was running out of money and couldn’t pay to stay in his home, he didn’t know what to do. Eventually, he found his way to living in a train station with Christopher, his son. This actually happened in real life too. When people would come and knock on the door, they simply would just stay quiet. After a while, the station provided them with a more suitable place to stay than a bathroom.

In the movie, the son’s age is different from real life. The real Chris Gardner was okay with this decision. He said, "I understood that. You've got to give these guys some license. My son was 2 years-old when we were going through this. Did we have dialogue? Yeah. But there's obviously more you can do when the child is a little older. Give them some license."(“The Pursuit of Happyness”). Will Smith's son Jaden, was actually seven-years-old during the shooting of the movie, who portrayed Christopher Jr. as a five-year-old in the film, instead of two years old as Gardner stated. Another difference would be when the two police officers came to Chris’s house and arrested him. When they had arrested him in the movie, it was over all his unpaid parking tickets. In real life, he was arrested because of Jackie, the mother of his son Christopher, who had called them due to domestic violence, which never really happened. In the film, he only had to stay one night, and then almost missed his job interview the next day. After the job interview, he called his wife and she had told him she was leaving. When he got home, her and their son’s belongings were gone, along with them. In real life, Jackie said Chris physically abused her and after he was arrested, he was then told that he owed the parking tickets. After his 10 days in jail, he came home

And to correlate that with events in A Series of Unfortunate Events: the Bad Beginning, what constitutes being happy for the Baudelaire children would be to be a part of a family again. In other words, when it seemed as if having an ever-present parental figure in place of their birth parents for the Baudelaire’s life was enough to fulfill their need of an ideal childhood, as the story progressed, the Baudelaire had to learn the hard way that the pursuit of true happiness goes beyond just having a parental figure in and around them. In fact, it takes a careful and constant process, where it is not just about fulfilling the outer happiness (imaginary) in the presence of a parental figure, but also about fulfilling the inner ones (real) in the…

Jon Krakauer’s novel, Into The Wild, presents the question, to what extent is community essential to happiness? Based on the actions illustrated by the main character, Chris Mccandless and humans in general, it’s fair to say that we don’t need people in order to be happy. Community can be defined as, “A feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.” As humans, we are so diverse and unique that we sometimes can’t find a community where our goals, interest or attitudes are reciprocated by others. Though society does believe we need relationships with parents, mentors and friends to be happy; Chris showed that we did not need these relationships to be happy.…
