Chris Gardener Character Analysis

The first two characteristics that can immediately be identified in Chris Gardener is love and kindness. Chris has a strong bond with his son Christopher; they are inseparable. When Chris’ wife Linda leaves, Chris refuses to give Christopher up. Even though he is struggling to make enough money to survive, Chris cares Christopher no matter what they go through. You can see the duos close relationship through their conversations. When the two becomes homeless, Chris makes a game out of “time machine” to comfort his son. When homeless Chris does not give up on life or the internship – he may have to carry all of his belonging with him, but he still shows up every day. He shows courage by pursuing better things when he and his son Chris also shows …show more content…
Many times throughout the film you can tell that Christopher feels scared or is upset with what is going on. When at the subway station, Christopher is frustrated and wants his dad to tell him what to do next. His father knows that he is frustrated and uses “time travel” to make their circumstances a game. This is able to bring some comfort to Christopher. Without this love and kindness from his father the situation could have been much harder on Christopher. Chris always did his best for his son. This is why he fought endlessly for a better job. Without his love for his son Chris may have just given up, but he could not do that to his son.
The impact of the love that father and son had for each other lead him to reach out to Jay Twistle. He was relentless at trying to prove to Twistle that he would be a perfect candidate for his program. Twistle finally saw his worth which lead to the internship – and once again to prove his worth to Twistle and his other bosses he worked endlessly (reading in the dark and hardly sleeping).
