Chris Crutcher's Purpose For Whale Talk

Chris Crutcher’s purpose for , “Whale Talk”, was to show us how racism never goes away, bullying is a constant thing in today's society, and how harassment happen no matter what. The main character is T.j, he is mixed and he’s adopted. So he gets bullied a lot, but he doesn’t let it get to him. This book shows that bullies will do anything to put down their victim. The bully, Barbour gets mad when Chris is wearing his dead brothers letterman jacket, Barbour harrasses Chris and threatens him because of the fact that he isn't an athlete. T.j. helps Chris out and after a couple more harassments form Barbour and his jock friends. T.j. starts a swim team to prove that they can earn a letterman jacket just as easy as Barbour and the jocks can. T.J.
