Students travel to Spain, New Orleans
NCU Chorale tours Spain
The addition of an extra winter break provided a unique travel window for the North Central University Chorale to take their bi-annual international tour, Jan. 26–Feb. 5.
Visiting Madrid, Valencia, and Barcelona in Spain, the Chorale partnered with local churches and schools, performing concerts and doing outreach events. The result was music shared and lives changed.
Senior Jessica (Hutchens) Ballew said the Chorale’s music was just part of the equation and purpose of the trip. “A lot of choirs tour,” she observed, “but we also got to share the Gospel, and see the people, and interact.”
Ballew explained that in each city, Chorale members would visit the town center and just start singing. The music would attract crowds and provide an opportunity for their ministry partners to distribute flyers announcing a concert, either that night or the next day. …show more content…
Ballew said choir members were delighted to learn that a family who had heard the students singing came to the event, and accepted the invitation to receive Christ during the altar call.
Relationship-building happened outside of the concert halls, schools, and churches, as well. A small group of students frequented a store near their hotel in Barcelona, just for the opportunity to connect with the employees there. The Lord led them to meaningful conversations with one worker, but toward the end of their visit, it was clear one of his co-workers had been listening to these deep conversations about God.
