Choosing Scar: The Antagonists In Shakespeare's Julius Caesar

In the play Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare the main antagonist is Cassius. Cassius is a member of the Senate, who is very envious of Julius Caesar, and ultimately murders Caesar. My group chose to re-write the movie The Lion King directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff, to follow the plotline of Julius Caesar. We chose to cast the character Scar, from The Lion King as Cassius.
Choosing Scar, to portray the character of Caesar, was very easy to make for several reasons. Both characters are the antagonist in their respective stories and both character’s actions are fueled by jealousy. Cassius was a member of a Senate that was quickly losing power because of a leader that the people loved. Scar is the brother of Mufasa, the King of Africa,

Brutus was the tragic hero of Julius Caesar. Simba was the tragic hero of The Lion King. Each tragic hero was an important and trusted person to the power position in the stories. Cassius plotted the death of Caesar, along with the conspirators. Cassius tricked Brutus into the plan by throwing letters into Brutus’s home containing complaints against Caesar and the fears of the Roman people if he remained in power. Brutus was a honorable, patriotic, and trusted friend of Caesar. He lived his life to serve the well-being of Rome. His motives to end Caesar’s power was not fueled by jealousy like Cassius’s. Cassius led Brutus away from his honest ways. The guilt of his decisions and the being faced with being captured, Brutus chooses to end his own life. When Antony, Caesar's friend, and the man avenging his death said the following about Brutus after finding him dead. “This was the most noblest Roman of them all. All the conspirators save only he did that they did in envy of great Caesar. He only in general honest thought and common good to all made of them” (Shakespeare, Act 5).
