US News & World Report has ranked it within the top 100 universities in the nation. It is one of sixty-four schools included in the State University of New York (SUNY) system. It is further away than the other two schools and it poses different challenges when it comes to the weather. Since I have lived in Florida for my whole life, I have never experienced the kind of cold that New York gets in the winter. Two years ago, I visited my cousins in New York in January. It was not snowing, but it was extremely cold. I could barely handle the freezing winds, so I do not know how well I would do in the snow or in the cold for longer than three days. Despite this, I do enjoy that it is not eighty or ninety degrees for most of the year. Although the school is very far away from my immediate family, it is only ten minutes away from my cousins’ house. It would be nice to be close to some part of my family if I am so far from home. Since I am not a resident of the state of New York, I would have to pay out-of-state tuition. For this university, out-of-state tuition is about $23,710. However, according to the university website, more than half of the students receive some form of scholarships or financial aid; and, students of Stony Brook University typically graduate with low debt compared to other schools in the country. I have not gotten the opportunity to visit this university, but my uncle went to school at Stony Brook and he said he really enjoyed it. The school has a smaller student body than the other two universities I examined, only 25,000 students verses the other schools’ 30,000-50,000 students. It is ranked much higher than the other two schools as well, so less students may be a good thing. Stony Brook University has both good and bad attributes, so it would not be my first choice for college, but I will not count it out just
