Choir Camp Analysis

Decent Essays
Hey Andrea! I'm sure you know that I'm in the show choir over at Luers, well every year we put on a 4 day show choir camp for 5-14 year olds. I was wondering if Darius would be interested in coming to the camp? The camp is $50, you get a Luers t-shirt and a lunch on the last day. It's also one of our biggest fundraisers, so it would help shave down some of my show choir bill. But more importantly, it is a lot of fun, I wish I could have taken part in i, when I was his age. If you all are interested let me know and I can send you the form, or I can drop it off to you all, because we live right around the corner from one another.

Musical Crossroads Exhibit How would one enter the National Museum of African-American History and Culture and not expect to see at least one exhibit dedicated to music? In the African-American culture, music has always been used as a tool of expression. Music has always been a great source of historical evidence, for the lyrics in songs generally are a reflection of society. Therefore, music has always been a form of communication for the African-American culture. Luckily, the Musical Crossroads exhibit, at the museum, accurately depicts the importance of music in the African-American culture through the structure of the room, organization of the showcases, and selection of artifacts.…

On April 7, 2016, the GSU Jazz Combos came to play a riveting concert at the Georgia State Recital Hall. The members constituting the first combo were bassist David Schroeder, drummer Zach Benator, guitarist Bob Tarkington, tenor saxophonist Chris Suarez, and vocalist Oriana Wisdom. The members of the second combo were bassist David Schroeder (once again), drummer Jordan Holiman, guitarists Daniel Melton and Alex Hassell, and alto saxophonists Stephen May and Rodney Allen. In addition, the second combo also featured Morehouse College students Dakarai Barclay and Wes Hunn on trumpet…

But, to help you understand in my own opinion as to why ‘Elf the Musical Jr.’ was so bad, let me give you some feedback and get into a little more detail in the next few paragraphs.…

During high school, I participated in the KYYMCA Youth and Government program. The paramount conference of this program is called the Kentucky Youth Assembly (KYA). This conference serves as a mock session of the Kentucky legislature in which students are able to propose and debate bills. Thus, students become well-versed in debate procedure and, most of all, familiar with the rap of the gavel following the ruling on a bill’s passage. Students will either hear the phrase, “It is the decision of the chair that this bill has been passed, and it has” (rap rap), or “It is the decision of the chair that this bill has failed, and it has” (rap rap).…

During my High-School career I have had the opportunity to lead kids through music but I am most proud of the kids that I have worked with in Horn Choir. I founded Horn Choir at the beginning of 2015 as a fun escape from the stressful school life but it became much more. In horn choir I was able to encourage kids that I have student taught to join my organization. Little did I realize it, two of the younger kids participated in self-harm (cutting themselves). After realizing this shocking news I realized that Horn Choir was not just a fun activity for them, it was something that gave them hope and made them forget their own depression.…

This past Sunday I attended the school play, which was a comedy based along the storylines of The Christmas Carol. I noticed many people from the community brought their children along for the comedy. For someone who doesn’t really care for plays, or Christmas it was somewhat interesting to go into the play having doubts beforehand and coming out of it with a different view. The exposition started off the same as The Christmas Carrol.…

As part one winds to a close Larson includes Holmes' comparison of his insatiable desire to kill to a poet's "inspiration to sing" to provide more insight into homes darkened mind. A poet's song is seen as an inspirational thing of beauty, but Holmes compares this to his murderous tendencies. The juxtaposition of these two contrasting examples helps to bring Larson's theme that there is always light with darkness to the forefront as this reveals homes state of mind. There is no difference to Holmes with these two desires each simply a natural instinct. Poets wish to bring lighthearted merriment through songs and simply can't help doing so and madmen in the same light can not sate their dark desire…

Saxophonist Odean Pope delighted the audience with fabulous arrangements of acknowledged tunes with his expansive Saxophone Choir. The sparkling harmonic sequences led to soulful approaches and the balance between the improvised and the arranged was awesome. They kicked in with “To the Roach”, a piece dedicated to the drummer Max Roach, and proceeded with bubbling sax improvisations on “Coltrane Time”, Pope’s ballad “Cis” and an Afro-Latin piece packed with baritone fills whose title I couldn’t figure out.…

Singin’ in the Rain (1952) directed by Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen is one of Hollywood’s most famous musicals. As a big fan of musicals, it’s surprising that I have never seen this infamous film. I had preconceived notions about what it would be like and I thought that I wouldn’t enjoy it. However, the movie was nothing like that I thought it would be and I enjoyed the “behind the scenes” style of film that the director used to show the transition between silent films to talkie.…
