2. Thomas’ behavior has been negatively impacted by his mother’s illness, Thomas seems to miss his time with her as well as her discipline style. The illness has placed Thomas’ father in the role of primary care giver, he is more a strict disciplinarian, a style Thomas has not responded well with this style. Several external factors influence a student’s classroom behavior, family and personal relationships, health, socio-economic factors, extra-curricular activities, stability of their home life as well as substance abuse.

Since Thomas is unwilling to utilize the “Choices Chart” because he views it as a tool he has out grown, it could be rebranded and presented in a different manner. Instead of the “Choices Chart” it’s a more age appropriate tool that has the same information. Thomas should continue to be included in the general education classroom, however some interventions need to be implemented to remove him from the general education classroom when his behavior reaches a level that is disruptive to the other
