Choices are made by everyone 's Personality People 's decisions, actions, feelings are affected by their models of personality. According to Sigmund Freud, people have three models of personality, which determine their actions; the id, ego, superego. William Golding 's book Lord of the Flies takes place on an island where a group of boys with no adults are alone attempt to survive on the island. Even though the group of boys lose their sense in humanity. Three characters in William Golding Lord of the Flies represents the id, ego, superego Ralph, Jack and Piggy.

In a brief explanation the super ego judges performance (Cash). It dictates us from right and wrong (Sherman). In the book Lord of the Flies Piggy represents the superego. When Jack made his own tribe and everyone left. Ralph, Simon, and Piggy are left with them self 's. Piggy worries about Jack 's tribe "P 'raps we ought to go. ' Ralph looked at him quickly and Piggy blushed. I mean to make sure nothing happens" (Golding 148). (Dear Mr. Partyka sorry for using character speaking this quote it is a better example). Piggy worried about the tribe that left them and wanted to check up on them and see how they 're doing. Piggy worried if they had food and water. Piggy throughout the book looks out for other people. This shows the superego because he looks out for others and wants to do things rights. In addition Piggy is recognized by Ralph for his intellectual knowledge. When Ralph thought of his values he thinks about Piggy. "Piggy could think. He could go step by step inside that fat head of his...But Piggy, for all his ludicrous body, had brains"(Golding 78). The ability to think things logically is a characteristic of the superego. To conclude the superego is the moral part of Piggy to do what is right from wrong and to use his knowledge to fix problems. Ralph signifies the ego in the book Lord of the Flies. The ego in a short explanation. Negotiates with the id in order to get what it wants without costing it too much in the long run (Cash). The ego is the reality principle. It understand feelings of others than yourself (Sherman). Ralph represents the id. Also, at many stages in the book Ralph proved he was the Ego by not agreeing with Jack 's methods, and being responsible. ""They 're 's another thing. We can help them to find us. If a ship comes near the island they may not notice us. So we must make smoke on top of the mountain. We must make a fire." (Golding, 35) This quote shows that Ralph, being trustworthy and thought it would be a better idea to make a fire for the island. At this point in the book, Jack thought it would be a better idea to go hunting than anything else. Ralph shows the Ego by standing up to him, and doing the responsible and realistic thing to do in this situation. Lastly, Ralph shows he has the Ego throughout the book by always thinking about it. ""What was the sensible thing to do? There was no Piggy to talk sense. There was no solemn assembly for debate nor dignity of the conch." (196) this quote proves Ralph is always thinking about what the sensible and realistic thing to do is, in every situation throughout the book. Therefore, Ralph has proven himself to show the Ego throughout the
