Choices And Habits Influence The Normal Changes Of Aging

As Lange (2012) mentioned, “although one person may be 80 years old but appear to be 15 years younger, another person might be 70 years old and appear to be 10 years older. This difference manifests in part, by how our choices and habits influence the normal changes of aging” (p. 223). With aging, our bodies and organs naturally start to lose functions. Certain changes are inevitable, as we get old. One of the obvious change we see is the wrinkle on our skin. I agree with you Kristin, this ad seams like against our natural process of aging. Advertisements are deceiving; cigarette companies use them to target consumers of different social statuses, race, and ages. The majority of the ads portray an image that makes the consumer believe that if they use their product they will look or be as happy as the person shown in the ad. Yet many ads do not show the side effect that their product can have or the effect it can cause on the consumers health. For example in my ad, it tries to convince young adults to buy Newport cigarettes. The ad targets young adults of all races, making them believe that if they smoke Newport cigarettes they will look as healthy, have a good time, and be cool around their friends and peers when in reality it is not true, therefore this ad is ineffective.…

I do agree with Kilbourne’s take on some of the ads she reviewed, woman in general are over sexualized in advertisement and as a mother of a teenage daughter, I do find offense to how woman are portrayed. However, this Skintimate ad was done in good humor and tasteful in my opinion. I did not see how this ad could be grouped into the other ads about woman and…

Advertisements are always full of propaganda, that's how they try to get you to buy their product. They bend the truth, or try to make things seems appealing. It wasn’t until these ads were outlawed in some places that we began to see how false they really were.…

Throughout our lives we’ve all smiled, laughed, and even frowned quite extensively. Unfortunately, dynamic wrinkles form as a result of the actions of muscles. Examples of this are the worry lines in the forehead, frown lines and crow’s feet. The contraction of small muscles under the skin results in grooves being worn into the skin. This is an ad that attempts to play on Pathos but would have most people using Logos. A person with body image, self-esteem, and/or drug issues may feel that a person in that condition would be someone to admire. Also, this does set an image for the younger crowds, reflecting this publisher’s opinion on the standard of beautiful. However, to any person with any sense of concern for their health, they would see an image of a person who is severely underweight and emaciated. Any way a person could accomplish this look is not healthy.…

Faults in the advertisement come in to play, as it insists that natural beauty is in fact not natural beauty at all, but foundation on the skin made to look flawless. In addition, the ad suggests that the reasons behind wearing makeup are to gain the opposite genders attention and to appeal to their liking. The ad raises the question: Why can’t women wear make up to feel good about themselves? And why isn’t natural beauty not defined as the natural skin women are given? After all shouldn 't a magazine, solely for women, praise them for who they are verses their appearance?…

Taking a deeper look into an ad is something that most people don’t do. Most the time the consumer just looks at the ad and tries to see what the company is talking about and how it might work for the consumer. But looking more in depth on an ad can really help the consumer understand the product better than they did before. Absolut came out with their Pear flavor in 2007. In their ad for this new flavor, they show it off with a black backdrop and a green snake that has eaten a pear.…

Age to me is just a number, there are other factors that contributed to how old you may actually feel. In our text Hillier and Barrow talk about four different types of aging, which include chronological aging, biological aging, psychological aging, and social aging each of which look at age differently (2015, pg. 2-3). When looking at chronological age my age would not change from what I am now, since it the number of years since birth (Hillier & Barrow, 2015). Chronologically I feel 30, but am not that young anymore, but as a said prior age is just a number that is assigned to you based on your date of birth.…
