I have chosen to conduct my case study around Standard Bank Group Limited due to it’s prevalent presence on the African continent operating in 32 countries across the world (20 of these being African nations) as well as in addition to the bank’s substantial dominance in the African Market , having been regularly judged as being the “ best bank in Africa” , closing off the year 2015 with assets worth well over the value of $184.518 billion (closest competitor – Barclays Africa Group ( Absa ) – $97, 241 billion) making it the richest in Africa , the bank’s market cap being around $20 billion.

Though a global brand , Standard Bank strives extensively to stick to their South African roots and maintain an “African” identity ,furthermore stating in their sustainability report that “ Africa is our home , we drive her growth”. STRENGTHS Standard is the richest bank in Africa with a revenue of close to 190 billion rand each year , meaning a sufficient amount of that money can be used to fund CSR community to provide for our primary stakeholders( employees; customers)
WEAKNESSES Spanning over 32 countries globally Standard Bank is subject to the changing and shifting of laws in other states it may operate in and the incurrence of tax and operating fees which may hamper with the facilitation of CSR projects abroad
OPPORTUNITIES The prevalent use of CSR projects is an exceptional marketing tool that puts the business in a good light and may push customers to rather bank with Standard than a rival
THREATS Standard Bank does not operate as a medical firm which may place the lives of their staff and others in the program at risk as the wrong medicine may be stocked
