In addition, Carly has opened my eyes to the beauty that exists in those with the disorder. I say with a bit of shame, how little I knew about the amount of suffering people with Autism experienced every day and how hard it can be for their families. I didn’t realize just how differently their view of and interaction with the world was compared to those without Autism. One of the differences that stood out to me was the struggle Carly had to overcome daily to express her inner…

For this part of unit one you need to select one of the case studies below. For the case study you have chosen you need to create a multi-agency flow chart of how a child can be supported with their development depending on their individual need. You will need to think about what agencies you may need to involve in order for the child to be fully supported. You will need to complete research on different multi-agency support specialists and how they support the children throughout their development process. This task is based around looking at a child’s “atypical development”.…
Competency 6 For someone who has worked in the school system for 5 years, I have worked with many students that have been diagnosed with Autism and/or Asperger’s Disorders. By the time they enter the school setting they have often already been diagnosed. I was always curious how children could be diagnosed with Autism at such a young age, and I learned a lot of new information on how it is diagnosed. After reading the texts, and samples many of my previous questions were answered about these tests.…

She lives in an apartment with her father (J.P.), mother (T.P), and her paternal grandmother.…
Introduction “The image often evoked to describe autism is that of a beautiful child in a glass shell.” (Schopler, E., Mesibov, G., 1995) For decades many parents have clung to this notion, of hoping that one day a means might be found to break the invisible barrier. Thus far, no cure has been found. Perhaps the time has come for the image to be shattered. Perhaps the time has come to concentrate, rather, on understanding the minds of the autistic.…

Concerning a topic that hits close to home, people will always hold different values, beliefs, and opinions. Such a concept will also be the source of tension and conflict when two parties cannot agree on the best route for success. One such topic that merits controversial values and beliefs among professionals and parents alike is Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Often, when a parent is raising a child with ASD, they have not previously been exposed to a child with ASD. The parent will likely ask themselves, people they know, and professionals, what the next step will be in order to ensure the best quality of life for their child.…
