Throughout human history, individuals, like us, endure extraordinary events in order to survive their difficult obstacles. People go through great lengths so that they could live a safer and better life. People like Chloe and Katniss Everdeen have a powerful instinct and strong will to survive the steepest hills that represent their conflicts in their lives. Chloe is a tremendous example of the headstrong instinct most people have at their most vulnerable times. Chloe’s life was normal until she scraped her knee frolicking at a playground one afternoon. At first, her mother was not surprised and thought it was common; however, Chloe began growing ill. Her leg was badly bruised and swelling. “It is an obvious sign of necrotizing fasciitis, a flesh eating bacterial infection.” the doctors explained to Chloe’s parents. Chloe endured three surgeries concerning her infected leg. After the final surgery, Chloe and her parents learned that she was ill with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Panem is ruled by the tyrant, President Snow, and is divided into twelve different districts. Katniss lives in District 12 with her mother and her sister, Prim. Each year two teenagers are to participate in a game in which they fight to the death in order to be crowned as victor. As the raffle ensues, Prim is chosen as one of the “tributes” in the games; however, Katniss volunteers to replace her involvement in order to save her from being killed. In the games, she shows survival traits she learned while living in her district. Those survival traits include strength, intelligence, and bravery which represent the common instincts of a person who is at their most vulnerable times.
