Brad is a twenty-two year old male athlete suffering depression. Brad had no knowledge of the mental illness, further enabling him to deny the diagnosis. Brad currently plays first grade National Rugby League, forcing him to make extensive personal sacrifices in order to pursue his dreams. These include moving away from family to train full-time in academies, and sacrificing personal and romantic relationships. Brad has developed depression due to the psychological and physical demands of training and competition, social difficulties, and relocating (Gulliver, Griffiths & Christensen, 2012; National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), 2013; Schaal, Tafflet, Nassif, Thibault & Pichard, 2011).
