Over the last few years civil rights groups have pushed that chivalry is dead. Sure, perhaps the old ways of chivalry are no longer in use, but what about chivalry of the modern world? Through looking back at the old ways and history of chivalry, why people say it has died, and how one can still achieve the act of being chivalrous and where chivalry is seen today. It is shown that chivalry isn’t necessarily dead; it has merely changed form to fit a more different setting.
Starting by taking a look can take a look at chivalry then and now. With the common idea behind feminism being that women are strong independent beings, that makes the thought of being gentlemanly highly sexist. The consequence of this thought is that men are now afraid to be gentleman in the fear of being sexist. According to Daubney in his article, “Chivalry Is Dead and Feminism Killed It,” “The problem is, this remorseless public shaming of men doesn’t just out the morons. It drives the rest of us into hiding.” He refers to the “morons” earlier in his article talking about how he agrees with the public shaming of idiots who shout out threats of rape or sexual intimidation of women. However, this outcry has wrongly been subjected to men who do the right thing. As little boys, moms teach their kids how to be kind to elders, women, and people of high positions. These same mannerisms are the exact ones that are being called out as sexist.
