One widely debated topic among people is whether chivalry still around in the world today. The answer is simply no; chivalry was killed off in our modern society. Chivalry is a concept that has been killed off by various factors, leaving only the memory of true mannerism. Of course, this is a generalized belief and instances of chivalrous acts in people still exist. However, on the large scale of things, chivalry is dead. In order to support this statement on whether chivalry is dead or not, a single definition of chivalry must be determined. Just by simply looking at a dictionary, chivalry is defined as, “the sum of the ideal qualifications of a knight, including courtesy, generosity, valor, and dexterity in arms.” From this definition, chivalry can be said to be courtesy, generosity, and valor found in men, since knights are considered male. Now that a simple definition has been determined, some common claims about chivalry can be considered on whether they hold validity or not.
One common claim, and one that should be discussed first, is chivalry only applies to the male gender, and not females. This can especially be seen when people are asked whether chivalry still exists. It is always generalized that “no, men no longer show chivalry,” or something of that nature. The fact of the matter is, this is a common misconception of others. Woman can also show chivalry to men, and vice versa. It is a two way street for both parties, men can open doors and woman…
