According to D.D. Palmer, his first defining moment for chiropractic care, as a cure for ailments, came when he adjusted the neck of a deaf patient who was miraculously able to regain his hearing. A few years after Palmer’s successful patient recovery, he established the Palmer School of Chiropractic, which was the first school to teach this practice as a new medical profession. Today, chiropractic is used in many realms but it’s especially sought out by those who need relief of musculoskeletal pain. Many of the patients that visit chiropractors are those who present with neck or back pain and are seeking an alternative form of pain relief rather than opioid medication. …show more content…

For the most part, chiropractic is based on a philosophy that the entire body can only function at its optimal level if the column is properly aligned. Of course, other areas of the body are worked as well, but the spine is imperative. Different chiropractors have different methods to perform similar tasks.…

The chiropractor helps create the environment within the body that facilitates this. Since every organ and cell within the body is controlled by the nervous system, a chiropractor focuses his/her attention on keeping the spinal column properly aligned. If a shift occurs, the chiropractor realigns the spinal column to restore proper movement and allow the cerebrospinal fluid to move freely within the intercommunicating channels that house the cerebrospinal fluid.…

X-rays may also be taken if necessary. Chiropractors do not perform surgery and they do not have a license to write a prescription. Therefore, other treatment options are used, such as water, heat, massage, or exercise. With additional training, a chiropractor can specialize in a certain area, such as rehabilitation.…
