Chipotle’s started 2016 with 1,971 restaurants in 46 states, 11 in Canada, 7 in England, 4 in France and 1 in Germany (Thompson, n.d.). A growth trajectory of 220 to 235 additional locations including their new addition of ShopHouse and Pizzeria locale restaurants (Thompson, n.d.). They have instituted an industry-leading food safety program with nine components to prevent future disasters and proving to the food industry and the consumer they are taking aggressive initiatives in food safety. They are continuing their campaign and commitment to high quality food with good nutrition in spite of the higher cost and supplier issues they have encountered (Thompson, n.d.). They offer a people-orientated, performance based culture and offer a nice compensation package to managers, leads, and crew (Thompson, n.d.).

Chipotle Weakness: Chipotle is fairly dependent in the U.S. market which could cause issues if there is a significant economic down turn in the future. Their earnings have suffered since the outbreak which has impeded ability to grow and invest back into the company. They have a fairly replicable product as evidenced by Qdoba Grill and Moe’s Southwest Grill.
Chipotle Opportunities: Chipotle’s growth has primarily been in the United States. They have opportunity to expand internationally as their current saturations is very weak. Chipotle would benefit in cost savings by limiting their suppliers. They have stayed true to their quality and organic products but narrowing their suppliers would be a financial and safety benefit.
Chipotle’s Threats: Chipotle’s ability to overcome the trust of the consumer since the break out. It is believed to have improved but there may always be some doubt, which can continue to inhibit growth and financial success.
