Supply chain management, by definition, is the management of relationships in the network of organizations, from end customers through original suppliers, using key cross-functional business processes to create value for customers and other stakeholder. Although Chipotle had been on the top of fast food industry, it still lack to comply a fundamental concept: using cross-functional integration. Indeed, different departments in Chipotle work well individually to try to achieve the company’s goal, but when the issue arose, they could not identify which step is wrong and where is the error came from. E. Coli outbreak is the best example to describe this lack of cross-functional integration. After the outbreak happened, the company could not figure out which step …show more content…
Therefore, it is important that different departments within the company to work together and share information in order to achieve the company’s goal. Going further, Chipotle should practice the eight supply chain management processes in order to maintain its leadership within the fast food industry: customer relationship management, supplier relationship management, customer service management, demand management, order fulfillment, manufacturing flow management, product development and commercialization, and returns management. During the outbreak, Chipotle needs to provide good customer service and maintain customer relationship for their customers.
