Chinese Philosopher, Hsun Tzu is the author of “Encouraging Learning.” He became a significant figure towards the advancement of Chinese philosophy. Continued education was the focus in this article; however, Tzu being a firm promoter of education chose to highlight human nature in the natural world. He covers topics ranging from how to conduct yourself as an educated person to how to apply that knowledge learned. To educate ourselves according to Confucius’s way according to our reading “Encouraging Learning”, it states…”one must do so by duty, order and ritual”. 1). Throughout Chinese history his analysis encouraged many to dedicate immense time and effort towards education. He stressed that dedication and studious studying would result in high morals. Advancing yourself academically can show a persons drive and dedication. Education teaches us how to apply the knowledge obtained into our lives. Different subjects provide different skills. Language arts help to articulate our thoughts clearly and contribute to communicating with people on a daily basis. Applying those skills to activities such as shopping, cooking and budgeting are abilities acquired from math and science. He felt that while our own interests were just that, people still had a heart and would have empathy for others in the sense that they did it because they cared and not because of what others were going to think. For instance, if someone was driving and saw a severe car accident, that bystander would assist in calling emergency responders. It is even possible, that the eyewitness would stop and provide help in the form of physical or emotional aid.
