Chinese latterns are very bright; they have a red color and most of them are oval shape. Papercutting contains Chinese auspicious words that express good wishes for the future. The Chinese character “Fu”, which means happiness, is the most popular character that people put in papercutting and Chinese lattern. Moreover, in the festival, the thing I liked most was food. Chinese food seemed to be similar to Vietnamese food, however, there were some typical food that were totally different from Vietnamese food. There were a lot of traditional street food in the festival, such as Taiwanese sausage, egg waffle, Dragon’s whisker candy, crispy chicken filet, red candied fruit, BBQ corn on the cob, and more. The food I liked most was red candied fruit, which also called Tang-Hu-Lu. It was made with fresh fruits and covered with candy on a bamboo stick. It had a red color, so it was very attractive and easily recognized. When I tased it, it was very crunchy, sour and sweet. Besides, the other food I also liked was Dragon’s whisker candy. Nowaday, Chinese people tended to wear high heels with their traditional dresses. As a result, this festival brought me a great day. As an “outsider”, a Chinese New Year festival was definitely a good chance for foreign people, like me, to understand more about Chinese customs and activities during Lunar New Year. Chinese New Year had its own color and customs. Even though China had the same celebration for Lunar New Year as Vietnam, China had different food and decoration in houses during New Year. Futhermore, the atmostphere in the festival gave me a very warm and lovely day with a red field around every corners in the festival. The atmostphere in the festival showed me that people were very busy in order to prepare for the coming Lunar New Year. In the festival, it was full of people who spoke Chinese. It made me feel like I was really in China and celebrated Lunar New Year. A lot of Chinese people immigrated to the US with their family, but they were still be able to preserve their cultural heritage by wearing their traditional clothings, celebrating Chinese New Year, eating Chinese food, and speaking their own
