In chapter 13 of the Disappearing Spoon titled "Elements as Money" The author Kien talks about the value of the elements in terms of money and says the difference between the items that are sold more or less because of the value of it uses. It tells a myth of Midas, the king of what is now called Turkey, Phrygia and how he had kept the ability of being able to convert anything that would touch in gold. He was not able to control this power of his and eventually turned his own daughter into gold in a hug. Obviously, this story is not true, but there is a reason to know why these stories are told about him. This textual analysis will define the first-person testimonial ethos of the working classes through the experimental experiences of Barbara Ehrenreich’s in Nickel and Dimed. Ehrenreich provides a ethos-based theoretical evaluation of the working classes through by pretending to be a member of the working class, and also by providing a testimony of her experiences in this working environment. The story begins in the third year of the Xuanhe regin period under Emperor Huizong of the Song dynasty. A weaver named Shen Yu lived with his wife named Yan by the New North Bridge, outside Wuilin Gate, in the prefecture of Ninghai. The process of discovery enlightens and educates individuals with fresh, meaningful ideals about the physical and spiritual world, whilst also reshaping an individual’s perspectives of the world, themselves and others. Two texts which explore this dynamic of discovery is Simon Nasht’s documentary Frank Hurley: The Man Who Made History (2004) and Khaled Hosseini’s novel The Kite Runner (2003). Nasht’s documentary uses Frank Hurley’s expedition into the Antarctic as a vehicle to convey one’s pursuit for awe-inspiring discoveries of new and wondrous lands. When the Emperor Was Divine is a novel written by Julie Otsuka. The story was set in the period of World War II when Japanese-Americans were put into internment camps as they were believed to be a threat to the United States because of their possible connections with the country of Japan. The novel follows a Japanese family and their whole journey throughout this period. The story was told in the third person for the majority of the novel and often interrupted by several flashbacks.
