Book burning is the destruction of writings which the subject, or the view of the author is considered socially politically objectionable: used as a means of censorship or oppression. Book burnings can be because of a religious or cultural difference of the material in the books. Book burnings were used to portray set opinions about certain information and to make the public feel the same way. The most common reason books were burned was to censor or to destroy a part of a culture. Book burnings date all the way back to 700 BCE when empires existed. In 210 BCE, Qin Shi Huang, the only emperor of the Qin Dynasty in China, ordered a burning of books for Confucianism. Qin unified all of China after the Warring States Period; he wanted everything
