Sustainability is often claim as the core to any company success. The word sustainability means an ability to continue doing or having something for a long period of time. In business, sustainability is measured according to the triple bottom line. The triple bottom line assess companies through three factors: people, planet and profit. This essay will discuss Rio Tinto Group’s sustainability by using triple bottom line and give recommendations on the company’s weaknesses. Rio Tinto’s workers are award with high salary; in Pilbara region, the lowest salary is over 100,000 U.S. dollars annually which is almost three times the salary of average Australian income at 3079.64 U.S. dollars (Barrass, 2011). According to Payscale (n.d.) Rio Tinto salary ranges from 35621.08 to 160591.24 U.S. dollars. Rio Tinto consider their worker’s health as company’s priority; the company spent 16.425 million dollar in partnering with the Royal Flying doctor to ensure that their workers are able to get medical treatment quickly even in remote places (Rio Tinto b, n.d.(doc)). In the near future the company is going to buy four new Pilatus PC24 jet aircraft to replace the old model jet; the new jets are able to take off quicker and able to loads more patients (Rio Tinto b, n.d.(doc)). Apart from helping their employees, the company also give out t to the society. In 2014, during the outbreak of Ebola, the company has donated more than 3.4 million U.S. dollars to help people fight with the disease (U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, 2014). They supply equipment and set up a mobile medical camps to provide more places for treatment (U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, 2014). Rio Tinto also help the local community by giving education to Aboriginal students which had help almost 650 students to continue their studies in university level (“Corporate Giving Index”, 2014). However it could not be overlooked that Rio Tinto workers and the local people are exposed to pollutions and radiation which could cause several diseases. Many employees of Rio Tinto Uranium mine in Rӧssing, Namibia are facing cancer and was radiated; the worker claim that they are not informed about their medical record that the company has kept and has to paid for their own medical checkup at the
