After Fern was sent away to the place she belonged to, Rosemary went into depression. She described how it impacted her "I felt her loss in a powerfully physical way. I missed her smell and the sticky wet of her breath on my neck. I missed her fingers scratching through my hair. We say next to each other, lay across each other, pushed, pulled stroked, and struck each other a hundred times a day and I suffered the deprivation of this. It was an ache, a hunger on the surface of my skin” (Fowler, 107). Memory was all that lasted and all that was going through Rosemary's mind. The loss of Fern literally destroyed her because Fern was no just a chimpanzee to her, but it was her twin, her other half and the closest person she had. She felt like she had lost her soul because she was literally raised with Fern and then out of nowhere Fern was gone, that definitely left a big impact in Rosemary's
