Chillingworth's Conflicts

When Hester gets sent back to her Jail cell after being at the podium she needs a doctor to give her medicine to calm her down. Chillingworth who is her husband raises his hand in the crowd and says he is a doctor and can help her, which starts the scene.
Hester who has committed Adultery and now has a daughter named pearl is shocked when she sees Chillingworth enter the room and believes he is their to poison her. She refuses to drink the potion which leaves her in a state of frenzy. Chillingworth who is the husband of Hester has just come over seas from Europe and his intention is not to harm Hester but to find out who the father of Pearl is. The conflict they have both run into now is sharing the identities of who's who. Everyone in town

    Within this quote in Chapter 14, Hester inadvertently reveals that her spiritual condition is much stronger than before. When Chillingworth mentions that the town magistrates are considering allowing Hester to remove the letter, she becomes almost offended.
