In the United States, about fifty percent of the children experience regular nonparent child care. The research done in this article through the Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development was a longitudinal study and it was done by an assorted of economically diverse families. A longitudinal study is an observational research method in which data is gathered for the same subjects repeatedly over a period of time. Longitudinal research projects can extend over years or even decades. This article began their longitudinal study in the early nineteen nineties and it included 1,214 children participating. At the hospitals throughout ten different locations in the United States, participants were selected after giving birth and screened for eligibility. The mothers were recruited and 26% of the mother did not have a high school diploma, 21% had income less than the poverty level, and 22% were from a minority
