Preschool Observation Report

After visiting two local preschools in Strasburg Virginia, I have noticed that children’s education is the main focus, but that can be presented to the children in many ways. The first preschool that I observed at was Pollywog Place on September 26. Pollywog Place is located in Strasburg VA and holds 74 children aging from 6 weeks to 5 years old. Of course with as many children as there are, there is a lot of staff members (21). Pollywog is a state licensed public daycare/preschool facility. At Pollywog, I was lucky enough to be able to spend time watching how all of the classes were taught. To begin the day, the teachers went over the daily schedule with the children. Then the classes stood up and began singing and dancing to get their jiggles out …show more content…
They both taught me a lot of new things to keep in mind while I continue to practice my education. They both had many similarities but also many differences. Grasshopper green is licensed to deal with children with special needs, but Pollywog isn’t. Pollywog is a daycare/preschool, allowing the children to spend all day with them, Grasshopper green is NOT a daycare, just preschool. Even though the facilities are very different, the teachers all had the same aspect of teaching. They realize to get to a child’s brain, you have to have fun while learning. You should never be too strict on a child when it comes to structured learning because it may make them reject learning all together. Both preschools used songs, dances, and games for a successful learning process. I really enjoyed this project. I can’t get over how excited I am to be able to apply all of the things I have learned to my own daycare/preschool one day. It has been very helpful. Even though I thought I was pretty educated, there is always room to learn more! Thank you professor, for helping me learn and urging me to go observe so I could see how different things really were in different

Based on my observation, I believe Mrs. Laura was the expertise and Mrs. Jan was the novice. Mrs. Laura was able to think in a larger, more meaningful pattern. When it came to teaching reading, Mrs. Laura was able to take the book and create different activities for the children to learn. She made it fun for the children to learn. When she created the different activities, she was able to target different goals such as spelling.…

A-Binoojii Daycare in Crandon has gone through many changes over the past couple of months including moving into a new building and hiring new teaching staff. During our time working together, the teaching staff identified a need to work on the environment and especially how to best set it up to support their lesson plans as well as the children’s individual and group goals. This has been all new work for the staff and they have been working hard to consider ways that they can be creative in utilizing a new, but relatively small space. We spent time looking specifically at developmentally appropriate practice as it relates to exploration and play being supported in the environment as well as how that looks in action. The teachers discovered…

Observation: Rise Program Physical Setting Rise is a beautiful facility. All of the windows looking into the classrooms and looking outside are my favorite because they provide light, openness, and a sense of connection throughout the whole building. The commons is also a great area. It is large and open for all of the kids to spread out and explore their surroundings, while engaging in gross motor activities, such as going down a slide, riding a tricycle, or jumping on a trampoline.…

Preschool Observation Observations are a way for future teachers to discover techniques and to prepare them for when they receive their own classroom. For my observation, I choose First United Methodist Preschool. The classroom I visited consisted of fourteen students, a lead teacher, and a co teacher who provided support in guidance and instruction for the students. • The atmosphere of the classroom was both fun and functional.…

(1 point) • If I were to do this lesson again, I would choose a different time to do it. Doing lessons during free play can be very hard and distracting as the children are more focused on wanting to play with their friends rather than doing a lesson with the teacher. I would also try to introduce it better, as that was one of our biggest down falls of the lesson is we couldn’t get children interested. We had about three interested in the beginning but then only one of them wanted to try…

When I walked into the preschool classroom, I noticed it was very large and very spacious which allowed enough space for each child. Natural light, provided there was no glare in the room, was able to help students learn more effectively. Upon entering the class, I quickly noticed all the children curiously turn to look who I was while they were having large group time for half an hour. During that time, they sang songs, had calendar time and the teacher did an overview of the day. I was very impressed at how cooperative they were for her.…

There was one instance when Miss Sarah brought out two cardboard boxes for two of the children to play with but the children just glanced over at the box and continued looking at it. Miss Sarah then modeled the action of hitting the top of the box with one hand like a drum to produce beats. The two children were sitting or standing next to the box and watched Miss Sarah model the action of hitting and proceeded to lightly hit the box just like Miss Sarah did. Their faces lit up into smiles and laughter as they realized their actions of hitting the box would produce sounds and continued to do so for the next five minutes. This teaching strategy was effective in this instance because the children seemed unsure of what to do with the unknown boxes and Miss Sarah…

I completed my infant observation at the University Child Development Center. The University Child Development Center specializes in childcare for infants all the way up to children age 12. The infant I observed was about eight months of age and was placed in a classroom that usually has a relatively small number of infants for better one on one attention. As I completed my observation, I observed all five developmental domains which include physical, emotional and social, cognitive, adaptive, and language and communication.…
