Krik Krak Literary Analysis Haiti is a little-known country that has a rich history that many people do not know due to the punitive conditions witnessed in the ancient centuries. Persecutions and the violence directed to her people by the invaders were the norms. Haiti’s history has not been in the limelight, perhaps due to the distance from far countries such as the United States of America. Some countries such as the Dominican Republic and Spain has refuted the cruel historical happenings in Haiti because they are the ones who inflict physical, psychological and emotional torture to the Haitians. The problem, however, is that so hopeful, to an extent that the reality becomes blurred. She thinks by just hoping everything will fall back into place. She is not a realist. On the other hand, on the “Nineteen Thirty-Seven”, the narrator’s mother is brave. She can escape from the harsh treatment with a baby in the womb. She knows that faith without actions is meaningless, and hence she has to cross a dangerous river. The neighbor accuses of harming her child, and she has to endure life in the prison for a thing she is not guilty of doing. She is a realist as she tell her daughter, Josephine, to keep Madonna as a reminder should she no see her again. She fights for her life. She too is optimistic. She endures all the sufferings in prison. Despite the fact that her daughter sees that she is not happy, and her health is headed southwards, she just smiles and says they are not being mistreated. About the character of “children of the sea “, who was writing letters to the boyfriend. She is optimistic that she will meet with his lover.She hopes that their love will one day become a reality. She talks of black butterflies and deep seas an indication that there is no luck, but she continues to write letters. She is real as she acknowledges the fact that the letters do not reach her lover. She is also thankful as she acknowledges the sacrifices that her father made for
