Should children have cellular phones, and if so, what is an appropriate age to provide one to our kids? The National Consumers League (2012), conducted a survey in June of 2012, uncovering that 21% of children eight years and younger use smart phones, according to Consumer Reports News (Mangis, 2012, para. 1). While numerous parents prefer their children have a mobile phone, kids should not own a cellular phone because it has a negative impact on young students academically, it inhibits healthy growth, and the myriad of risks that trump convenience.
