Childhood Sexual Trauma Paper

My reaction to the assigned article is one of confusion. I am not sure why we read the article. I believe that if I had more experience and more education then I would have been more interested in this article and its message. I am not sure the value of memories of childhood sexual trauma in general. I would imagine that after I get my MSW, I will understand how repressed memories fall into the therapy process. I did like reading was that is it important to work in a collaborative approach and also work towards a treatment goal (Prichard, 1997)

Hi Professor Everett and class, I reviewed the framework in chapter three and I believe Hartman and Burgess provided sufficient information to help us understand the linkages between sexual abuse and the victim's level of adjustment and post-trauma outcome. For example, when the family and professionals focus on the child by paying attention to their reactions when they discuss the abuse, it becomes an important factor in helping the child process their feelings by helping them create a way to move those terrible memories from active memory to distant memory. In doing so, the child is able to adjust to what has happened to them which in turn, provides a chance for them to function effectively in today's society.…

Extra Credit Assignment Choose one of the Group Types, Argue the benefits/limitations of the use of this type of group in substance abuse treatment Group Counseling Type: Psychodrama I chose to examine psychodrama because I am learning to lead it as a staff member at events conducted by the Mankind Project. I have limited experience at this time but have witnessed its cathartic results first and second hand as both a leader and a protagonist. Psychodrama therapy presupposes the client is committed to the action phase and beyond the contemplation phase in their own recovery. My stance on addiction is that, while it is great that the medical establishment has concluded that it is a “disease” rather than a character flaw, I would take…

I believe that the researches did not consider the implications that this article could have on the victims such as the belittling of the emotional impact of sexual assault. In fact this controversial article has been used in court cases by defense lawyers attempting to minimize the crime. Groups and organizations are also advocating for age of consent reform in which their goal is to decriminalize sexual activity between adults and minors. This article is helping them do so. That’s why in 1999 the House of Representatives passed a resolution declaring that sexual relations between an adult and child is abusive and harmful, they condemned the study of the basis that it was being used to promote and justify sexual abuse.…

I am working on finishing the second essay. I really appreciate the Existential-Humanistic point of view on trauma as a growth opportunity (Jacobson, 2006; Pitchford, 2009). This perspective encourages people to explore the meaning of trauma in their lives. Frankl (1946/1959) conferred the importance of seeking meaning in the face of adversity. Finding a purpose of a hardship helps people to cope better.…

Many describe child molesters as the image of a dirty old man, in a wrinkled raincoat hanging around a school playground with a bag of candy, waiting to lure little children. For some, the child molester is as stranger to his victim and not a father having sex with his daughter. For others, the child molester is one who exposes himself to or fondles children without engaging in vaginal or anal…
