Parents should not be the only ones held responsible for childhood obesity. Fast food companies and the government are also to blame. At my step-grandma’s house, all they used to do is stay home and watch television all day so my cousin’s aren’t so “fit.” These kind of issues can affect my health along with other kids. The fast food industry is also responsible for childhood obesity. The fast food industry sales big portions of processed foods for low prices so many people are easily attracted to big portions for a low cost, especially those who don’t make much money. They also target young children through advertisements. My family and I used to eat a lot of fast food because it was really cheap and we didn’t have much money. I see many tv commercials trying to sell a sugary cereal or sodas, candies, etc. targeting young children to catch their attention so they will want to buy the product next time they go to the grocery store (“The Blame Game and
Obesity in America”). We see many advertisements that try to grab our attention and it tempts us to eat processed junk food.
The government is also to blame for childhood obesity. They allow companies to put chemicals into our foods. When my family and I used to eat out a lot, I would see this warning sign in McDonald’s that says the chemicals they use can “cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm.” Those chemicals they put in the food that we consume can possibly
