Childhood obesity is a major health concern because of the increase in obesity over the past 30 years. Childhood obesity is a national epidemic. Nearly 1 in 3 children (ages 2-19) in the United States is overweight or obese, putting them at risk for serious health problems. Most parents or caregivers do not realize the risk their overweight children are in. There are some parents who allow their children to eat whatever and whenever they want. When you give a child the authority to just anything at any time they are going to take advantage of that, and most of the time ea junk food. Children who are obese should eat healthier, exercise, and engage in more activities.
Overweight and obesity are the result in caloric imbalance. Children and adolescents who are obese are likely to be obese as adults and are therefore more at risk for adult health problems such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and more. The first step a child should take is eating healthier. They need the help and support from their family. A parent should automatically put their foot down and start acting more like a parent. Once the child sees that it is no more fun and games they will start to take their diet seriously. A doctor should not have to tell you that your child needs to be on a diet, you should be able to look at your child and know. Health is important especially at a young age.
