Childhood obesity has become an epidemic in the United States with the highest rates among Hispanic and Black youth. Childhood obesity is a difficult health issue to tackle due to its multifaceted effect. Curtailing obesity will require the use of extensive research and epidemiological analysis to promote healthier habits and awareness, which is of the utmost importance to health professionals. One plausible method has been intervention. Campaigns such as “Move Your Body” by First lady Michelle Obama have shown to be effective in lieu of finding other social and economic resolutions to eliminate this epidemic.

Residents of this community are living in an area with many fast food restaurants, lack of access to healthcare, few parks and unsafe outdoor areas. Although the CDC reports that Childhood obesity is stabilizing, it is vital to address the causes of this health epidemic. Attempts to decrease this epidemic poses a challenge due to the social determinants that propel this preventable public health issue. The microsystem includes direct influences such as friends parents, whereas the mesosystem is based on the interactions with microsystem.
