I attended a three day conference that focused on collective action to address childhood obesity. I attended sessions on topics including childhood diabetes, school health policies, built environment, and community engagement. I worked as a volunteer where I prepared the room, gave time signals, and collected time signals. After attending the conference, I facilitated a roundtable discussion at the San Joaquin County Obesity Task Force Meeting where 20 people attended. I prepared questions about the major themes and a summary of the major talks. The conversation included great opinions and a variety of experiences from the group. People suggested potential ways to increase collaboration within our county to improve youth health outcomes.
Emergency Preparedness Table Top Activity and FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) Course
FEMA created protocol guide for local agencies on how to handle emergencies. I completed three NIMS courses that explained staff responsibilities and preparedness plans. In order to connect these schools and provide resources, I drafted a newsletter. Content included information on starting programs, grant opportunities, and stories from participating schools. I collected pictures from county SRTS events, composed text, and found recent articles and journals. The newsletter will serve as resource to support physical activity of students and update members of the work being done in the county. The newsletter was edited by the Public Information Office and other staff. From these edits, the newsletter will be approved to be distributed
