Childhood Obesity Article Summary

This article states that childhood obesity is widespread and growing problem in the world leading to medical, psychological, and economic problems. Taiwan has experienced an increase in child obesity the past two decades, one in every four children are considered overweight. There have been reports stating that kids watch more television than any other activity. The weight cutoff points are clear for adults, the cutoff points for defining childrens weight status can vary significantly by age and gender. The article explains that the research was conducted with five thousand households that were selected to have a face-to-face interview conducted from August 2001 to January of 2002. The National Health Research Institute of Taiwan said out of the five thousand households, three thousand nine hundred and seventy seven were twelve years of age or younger.
