Many people suffer from many different forms of diseases. Childhood obesity is a serious medical condition that affects children and adolescents and it occurs when a child is well above the normal weight for his or her height and age. Childhood obesity is particularly troubling because the extra pounds often start children on the path to health problems that were once prevalent in mostly adults, such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Childhood obesity can also often lead to poor self-esteem and depression and oftentimes can lead to obesity in adulthood. One of the best strategies to reduce childhood obesity is to improve the diet and exercise habits of your entire family. Treating and preventing childhood obesity helps protect the health of children now and in the future.

Childhood obesity has been a growing problem for many years and is reaching its peak. This is due to a variety of causes such as the advertising of less healthy foods. Nearly half of U.S. middle and high schools allow advertising of less healthy foods, which impacts students ' ability to make healthy food choices. In addition, foods high in total calories, sugars, salt, and fat, and low in nutrients by large fast food chains in particular are highly advertised and marketed through media and targeted directly to children and adolescents. Advertising for healthier foods is almost nonexistent in comparison.
